User commentary

Elxis 2009.0 or newer support users comments on content items. User commentary first introduced in Elxis core in Elxis 2008.1 for the eblog component. People were able to post comments on eblog posts. Since Elxis 2009.0 users commentary is supported for usual content items and autonomous pages.

Enable user comments
The activation of the users commentary feature is not a global Elxis setting but you can set this option for each content item and autonomous page separately. Elxis gives you the freedom to select the content items only for which you wish people to be able to post comments. This is set on the content item creation/edit page. When you add/edit a content item on your right hand there is a group of tabs. One of them is titled Parameters and contains various options related to the article such as if you wish a PDF creation icon to be visible or not. Click on this tab and look for a parameter called Commentary. The Commentary parameters allows you to set if user comments are allowed for this article or not and who is allowed to post comments, registered users only or everybody.
Display number of comments for content items
You can set to display the number of comments for each article shown in a category or section list page, in a blog page or even in Elxis front-page as you do with hits. This setting (the option to display number of comments or not) can be found in the menu item parameters that links to the specific page. In the screen shot bellow you can see that we have set the number of comments to be visible for articles shown when clicked the "Installation" menu. This menu is of type "Table - Content category".
Display list of existing comments
The list of existing comments for a content item is being displayed in content item's detailed page automatically by Elxis if you have enabled user commentary for this article. If the visitor/user is allowed to post comments he will also see a form to post a new comment. If you are logged in as a web site super administrator or the article author you will also see unpublished comments and links to publish them as well as links to delete comments, and additional user information (e-mail and IP addresses). If you are logged in as a user that have posted a comment Elxis allows you to delete your own comments. Notice that editing a comment is not allowed. Visitors don't see unpublished comments. If you are just a visitor who posted a comment your new comment will stay unpublished until the author or a super administrator publish it. Registered users comments are automatically published.
Posting Comments
If user comments are enabled for a content item and you are allowed to post comments then Elxis will display you a form to add a new comment. If you are a visitor your comment will stay unpublished until the article's author or a site's super administrator publish it. Elxis sends a notification e-mail to the article's author in order to notify him about the new added unpublished comment. Registered users comments are published automatically. HTML is not allowed inside comments. Elxis will strip out any html tags may found in your comment and it will also remove some special characters that could be dangerous. Elxis will also convert URLs to click able links. So, if you wish to add a link in your comment just type the URL.
Manage Comments
Article's authors or super administrators in order to publish or delete a comment have to login in fronted and visit the corresponding article page, then all published or unpublished comments will appear in the list bellow the article. Use the links below the comment as the picture above shows. All comment management functions reside in fronted, in each article's page, there is nothing to do in the administrator area for publishing-unpublishing or deleting comments. The administrator area holds only the controls for enabling user commentary in article(s), not for managing comments.
