Since version 2009.2 Elxis provides you with a built-in system to automatic translate content items and autonomous pages to any of the 91 supported languages. The Translate bot uses the Elxis translation API powered by Google online translation services.

Functionality

When enabled the bot displays a translate icon (good old babelfish) in the article's top right corner inside the icons bar. If you hover the mouse over the icon the bot will show you a drop down selection list to select the destination language. After a while (normally after 2-3 seconds) the translated text will be ready, the translation box will close and the original text will be replaced by the translated text. The picture bellow shows you bot's functionality in steps.

A very important factor is that the html format of the original text is being preserved! See bellow a sample translation from English to Russian.

Bot settings

In Elxis administration panel navigate to Bots -> Site bots. Click on the Translate bot to edit its parameters. Publish the bot and set the default display style. If Display is set to Yes then the translate bot will be visible by default to all content items and autonomous pages. If is set to No it will be hidden by default.

Overriding default settings

You can override the lot's global Display option for particular content items and autonomous pages. On the content item's edit page click on the parameters tab and locate the Translate option. From there you can change the global display option for that particular content item.
