If you have more than one menu items linking to the same page Elxis will use the first one entered in the database.

In the same menu... not in different menus... is that correct?

It is correct. Consider the following example:
Menu item A having Itemid = 34 links to component weblinks.
Menu item B having Itemid = 56 links to component weblinks.
Menu item C having Itemid = 107 links to component weblinks.

When you are on component's weblink page Elxis will always load the first suitable Itemid finds in the database and this is 34 (we consider that all menu items have the same language/publish/access settings).
There is a workaround in this by using the AJAX powered Itemid preload feature (setsyn) but this outside of the scope of this guide - written for newbies.

Note: Elxis might load the proper Itemid (the clicked one) if you don't use SEO PRO but not under all circumstances. Anyway, this is something complex which we better not talk about here.
