IOS Reservation can send notifications via e-mail, FAX and SMS message.

To enable reservation notifications to your mobile phone via SMS you have to do the following actions:

  • Create a member account to Clickatell.
  • Set up an HTTP API to Clickatell.
  • Enable SMS notifications for your hotel and set the Clickatell parameters properly.

Each hotel can set up SMS notifications independently. You can use the same Clickatell account for all the hotels, one account per hotel, or any combinations.

Contents

Create account to Clickatell

Go to Clickatell web site and register as a new member. Registration is free and Clickatell provides you with 10 free credits to test its service. You can any time buy more credits. Clickatell allows you to send SMS messages to any country in the world. Write down your Clickatell Username and Password, we will need them later on IOS Reservations.

Set up an HTTP API at Clickatell

IOS Reservations use Clickatell's HTTP API to deliver SMS messages. Click create API, write a title for your API (any title you wish) and click Save. The HTTP API is ready. The API ID that Clickatell creates for you is important, write it down. For security reasons you can add your site's IP address in the API. This way no other site will be able to send messages using your account even if they know your username/password! Leave everything else blank.

Set up IOS Reservations

Open your hotel page in edit mode. Go to the Notifications tab. Select YES for Clickatell. Fill-in your Clickatell Username, Password, API ID, your mobile number and the SMS sender.

SMS Sender can be a mobile number in international format, or an alphanumeric string maximum 11 characters long. In order to prevent Sender ID abuse (spoofing), Clickatell requires customers to register the Sender IDs that they wish to use. So go to your Clickatell account and write down the Sender ID you used at IOS Reservations.

Click save when ready.

Who gets the SMS messages?

The owner of the mobile number that used on the SMS notifications tab (most probably the hotelier) receives an SMS notification on:

  • New Reservation
  • Reservation cancellation

The hotel guest also receives an SMS notification if he has provided a valid mobile number on:

  • Reservation confirmation (either after complete a payment or after manual confirmation).

Sample SMS message

For simplicity SMS messages are sent in LATIN-1 (English). They are short (160 characters long) but contain important information. Here is a sample for the new reservation notification.

NEW RESERVATION - HOTEL ID: 6
CODE: RJVG-4567-2351
STATUS: PENDING PAYMENT
AMOUNT: 240.50 EUR
CHECKIN: 2009-07-14
CHECKOUT: 2009-07-21
PERSONS: 4

Low SMS credits alert

If your SMS credits at clickatell.com gets lower than 3 then no SMS message is sent. IOS Reservations will sent an alert e-mail automatically to the hotel owner in that case in order to buy more credits.

Proper mobile number format

In order for the SMS message to be sent the mobile number must be provided in the right format. This is:

Country_code Network_prefix Mobile_number

Don't use leading "+" or zeros. Don't use spaces or anything else except digits.
Valid mobile number format example: 306973123456 (Greece, Cosmote)
