Arthrology for Elxis CMS 2008.x and 2009.x+ (component)

The Arthrology (component) is an article manager component for Elxis CMS 2008.x and 2009.x. It lets you store and index articles published in magazines. Created by Apostolos Koutsoulelos (bitcraft-labs.gr), released under the GNU/GPL license.

Administration

Control Panel

The Control Panel is the main screen of Arthrology component. Here you may start adding or removing magazines, articles and configuring the component.

To see the Control Panel hit "Components" tab in top navigations bar and then hit on "Arthrology".

Configuration

To see the configuration panel of Arthrology (component) hit Components tab in top navigation bar and select "Arthrology" then "Control Panel".

Note: Since Arthrology version 1.3 more options were added, so not all of the following options may be available if you are using an older version!

General Tab

In General Tab you can change these options:

Title: Component's displayed title
Display title: Set whether the component's title will be displayed
Magazine image: Set whether the magazine's image will be displayed
Magazine description: Set whether the magazine's description will be displayed
Limit: Set how many results will be displayed in each page [15 | 25 | 50]

RSS Tab

Since version 1.3, Arthrology automatically creates a RSS feeds with the latest articles. Here you can change the way the syndication file is created.

In RSS Tab you can change these options:

 Show RSS image: Set whether the RSS image will be displayed  
 Cache: Select if the syndication file will be cached  
 Cache time: Select the time, that the syndication file will be cached (in ms)
 Number: Select the number of the displayed articles
 Title: Select the syndication title
 Description: Select the syndiation description
 Multilingual feeds: Select if seperate syndication files will be created for each published language
 Image: Select the syndication image
 Image alternative text: Select the syndication image alternative text
 Text limit: Select if all or part of the article description will be displayed
 Text length: Select the length of the displayed article description (in characters)
 Live Bookmarks (for Firefox): Select if Live Bookmarks (for Firefox) will be created

IOS Sitemap Tab

Since version 1.3, Arthrology supports IOS Sitemap with an extension. By checking the box "Active IOS Sitemap extension" you make IOS Sitemap aware of Arthrology (component).

Import Tab

Through Import Tab you can import articles in a CVS form.

First select the Magazine in which articles will be added and then write the articles in the following CVS form:

Author ,, Title ,, Pages ,, Year

NOTE: Fields must be seperated by double-comma in order the import to work. This is because many articles may include a single comma in their title!

Finally select whether the imported articles will be immediately published or not.

Managing Magazines (categories)

Organising your articles into categories (magazines) helps you manage your articles in a user-frendly way and simplifies searching. Create as many magazines as you wish and then add articles to them.

Add Magazine

To add a magazine hit Components tab in top navigation bar and select "Arthrology" then "Manage Magazines".

There you will see our familiar button "new" to the upper right corner of the page, press "new" and a page will open.

Then you have to fill all fields:

  1. Give a Title to the new category (magazine).
  2. Give a Name to the new category (magazine).
  3. Suggest a SEO title by pressing the "suggested seo title" link under title-input fields.

All above fields are mandatory to create a new magazine. As in case of other categories either have options for language, user access level.. etc. Again elxis is able to create the category and use default options for those secondary non mandatory fields. If you want you can modify now or any time in the future by following the above steps.

Finally save magazine by pressing "save" button at upper right corner in category manager page.

Delete Magazine

To delete magazines hit Components tab in top navigation bar and select "Arthrology" then "Manage Magazines".

Select form the list the magazines you wish to delete and press "delete" button at upper right corner in category manager page.

Managing articles

Add Article

To add an article hit Components tab in top navigation bar and select "Arthrology" then "Manage Articles".

There you will see our familiar button "new" to the upper right corner of the page, press "new" and a page will open.

Then you have to fill all fields:

  1. Select the magazine of the article. From here you can set the year the article was published and the pages in magazine where it was published.
  2. Give a Title to the new magazine.
  3. Suggest a SEO title by pressing the "suggested seo title" link under title-input fields.
  4. Set the author's name.
  5. Give a small description of the article.
  6. Set whether the article is pubished (default is no).

If you want you can modify now or any time in the future by following the above steps.

At the right side of the page you can see the Tags tab. Here you can add tags for the article.

Finally save article by pressing "save" button at upper right corner in article manager page.

Delete Article

To delete an article hit Components tab in top navigation bar and select "Arthrology" then "Manage Articles".

Select form the list the article you wish to delete and press "delete" button at upper right corner in article manager page.

Front-end

Magazines

Since version 1.3, all magazines are displayed in the main front-page of Arthrology component. By clicking on any magazine, all articles for this magazine will be displayed.

Searching

Using Arthrology is very simple: just select the magazine you wish to search (or let the default All option), put the search keyword (at least 3 characters wide) inside the search box and click the Search button.

Printing results

When the results are displayed click on the print icon (just right the results sum) and a new window will open with a printable version of th results page.

Updating

From version 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 to version 1.3
