General

Elxis 2009.2 electra although it is mostly an improved version of Elxis 2009.1 hecate, provides also some very cool new features. In this article you can read about things added, updated or fixed in Elxis 2009.2 in comparison to the previous, 2009.1, release.

New features

  • Notifications on comment reply. Elxis will send e-mail notifications on new replies to comments posted on content items, autonomous pages and eBlog posts. (27/03/2010)
  • onContentIcons. A new trigger event was added for content bots, onContentIcons. (04/06/2010)
  • Automatic translation bot. A new content bot for Elxis front-end area provides automatic translation for any content item or autonomous page to 91 different languages. The translate bot uses the built-in Elxis translation API. (05/06/2010)
  • eConnect. New login screen for the administration area. (29/05/2010)
  • blogmore. Entering {blogmore} on any eBlog post will force the post to stop at this point on the blog roll page. This way visitors are forced to click an Read more link in order to read the full article. (24/05/2010)
  • Secure URLs. A new runtime configuration variable is available, ssl_live_site, that provides you with the secure version of the site's URL (live_site) in case the page has been requested with HTTPS. You can also get the secure version of any URL with SSL/TLS detection on or off (force SSL). (11/01/2010)
  • Check EDC for updates. Check Elxis Downloads Center for updated versions of installed third party extensions (components, modules and bots). In order for this feature to work your elxis installation must be online and able to communicate to EDC. (02/06/2010)
  • eBlog previous/next navigation. Added navigation links to the previous and next (by date) posts on eBlog's post page. (25/05/2010)
  • database XML parameter type. A new parameter type added, database, which can be used in any extension's type XML file and that makes possible to create a drop down selection field by querying the database. This way you can, for example, create an XML element that will list all site's categories. (29/05/2010)
  • e-mailit and AddThis integration. Elxis 2009.2 has e-mailit and AddThis link sharing services integrated for content items, autonomous pages and eBlog posts. (24/05/2010 and 04/06/2010).
  • System templates. They are a set of screens used to display site-wide messages such as fatal errors and site offline status. The system templates are: Offline page, Offline page with login, Error 404 page and Error page. Note also that if the site is offline for all except super administrators elxis will now display you a form from which super administrators (only) may login. The Error404 page, except from the site's menu items, now also shows a search form. (07/06/2010)
  • Chinese language. Added Chinese traditional and Chinese simplified languages. (27/04/2010)

  • eBlog comments styling. Better styling (html/css) for comments posted on eBlog posts. (27/03/2010)
  • Comments HTML. Elxis automatically converts line endings to brakes and auto-detects URLs and convert them to links on comments posted on content items, autonomous pages and eBlog posts. (25/03/2010)
  • XML Manipulation. XML files parsing is now done by using the PHP 5'x built-in class SimpleXMLElemnent. Therefore DOMIT is not used any more anywhere is Elxis core. Although DOMIT usage was discontinued its files remain in Elxis distribution for compatibility to third party extensions. (24/03/2010)
  • Tabs on module edit page. On module editing page the module details, parameters and assigned menu items are now being displayed in tabs. (29/05/2010)
  • Apply weblinks. Added apply button on the edit weblink page. (13/03/2010)
  • Apply template parameters. Added apply button on the edit template parameters page. (24/03/2010)
  • Template link. The templates link on the templates list page now opens the edit template parameters page. (24/03/2010)
  • Updiag'. The Update and Diagnose (updiag) tool was updated. (28/03/2010)
  • EDC browser/installer - The EDC browser/installer was updated providing a better user interface, categorized extensions, installed or not detection and the option to unload the loaded extensions list. (02/06/2010)
  • Language update. Administration language files where updated (main and installer) and some of them where improved (like Italian).
  • Menu types re-organized. Menu types were re-organized and removed double entries. Also for some languages (English, Greek) the menu types were renamed in order for new Elxis administrators to be easier to distinguish them. (13/06/2010)

Bug fixes

  • Item re-order. Assignment of a non-null value from a previous object to the null value of the corresponding element of the next object during re-ordering. (08-06-2010)
  • Title and META data. Fixed wrong HTML in page's head section on linkable category's title pages. (09/01/2010)
  • Automatic translation. In fact the translation service not just fixed but improved. (30/05/2010)
  • Administration templates. Set template for the administration area other than magnet. (11-06-2010)
  • Archive fix. Fixed a small mistype that made archive not working properly. (15-06-2010)
  • Login/Logout redirect. Fixed login/logout redirect when the site in in sub-folder and SEO PRO is off. (15-06-2010)


Notes

  • The offline.php and the includes/error404.php files where removed as their functionality replaced by the System templates.
  • magic_quotes_gpc recommendation was removed from the Elxis installer for compatibility to PHP 5.3+.
  • Important: From now on ampersands should be escaped on extensions XML installation files (mostly for components). If not, the extension's installation will fail. Read more.
  • Important: Developers that create extensions for Elxis and submit them on EDC should provide always on their EDC listing the extensions internal name as written in the XML installation file. If not, then their listing will not be displayed in the EDC updater extensions list.
